Every week since March of 2021, I’ve been inviting my neighbors and other crafters that I meet to join me with their current unobtrusive (see note #3 below) projects in a cozy café for some social time, to exchange ideas and knowledge, and to make projects on our WIPs.
There is no fee to attend, no need to RSVP, and beginners are also welcome. Every week, I (or someone else if I’m sick / out of town) will be at the café there by 17:30, but everyone arrives when it suits them best, so don’t be shy!
A couple small notes for attendees:
While we often share tips and advice and different techniques, this event is primarily for socializing and relaxing (it’s not a workshop), so everyone should be prepared with their own project and supplies, and be able to work independently. Teaching requires effort to prepare and to execute, so I recommend getting to know people (and maybe offering something in exchange) before asking someone to give you their full attention.
Please come prepared to purchase at least a small beverage or snack from the business that is hosting us—they often reserve space for us, and even stay open later than they otherwise would—just so that we can have the consistency that makes this event so reliably flexible to attend. In return, it also HAS to be financially sustainable for the business, which requires attendees to be not just guests, but customers.
Unobtrusive crafts are not smelly, loud, or noisy, nor do they leave behind traces of color or texture (i.e. cuts, dents, sticky residues) that are harder to remove than a dried drop of coffee. Projects that take up more space than a single adult are also not ideal for the public setting 💙
